Platinum

At Ladywood, we are fortunate to have excellent PE facilities, including two playgrounds, a field and a well-equipped hall. In addition, the school uses the local swimming Pool, Victoria Park Leisure Centre, for Year 4 children to experience swimming lessons and build their water skills and confidence throughout the year.

Our PE experiences are planned to promote positive attitudes towards physical activity and healthy lifestyles. We are very proud of achieving Platinum in the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark, which has continued from 2019-2022. Through a range of enjoyable physical activities, the pupils are given opportunities to develop their fundamental physical skills of agility, balance and coordination. We are aiming to achieve Platinum again at the end of this academic year!

We believe that high quality out-of-hours learning is of great importance to our children and provides opportunities for them to participate in after-school PE activities and competitions. Our Learning Mentors and teachers fully support and further enhance the children’s physical learning and development, by taking an active lead in after school sports clubs. *We lead a range of extra-curricular activities, including, Change4Life, Inspire: Physical Activity, Mini Leaders, Young Leaders, This Girl Can and Sports Ambassadors. *Please note: after school clubs are not currently taking place.

As part of our PE funding, we have developed strong links with Erewash School Sports Partnership. This has resulted in many opportunities for Ladywood children to compete in sporting competitions and festivals against children from other local schools. Furthermore, Ladywood staff members regularly attend cluster meetings and training opportunities with the core aim to improve the quality and quantity of PE, physical activity and sport in schools. We aim to engage, motivate and include as many people as possible in a positive PE and sporting experience.

LADYWOOD AIMS:

1. To give the children opportunities to develop agility, balance and coordination skills across a range of sporting disciplines.

2. To plan lessons that will allow children to be physically active for sustained periods of time.

3. To encourage children to participate in both intra and inter sports competitions and festivals.

4. To develop the social skills of fair play, co-operation and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators.

5. To promote an awareness and positive attitude towards healthy lifestyles, personal fitness, and safety.
